Kottarakkara Kaippallil kuttan Pillai, known KP Kottarakkara has given a bunch of desirable movies to Malayalam industry. KP Kottarakkara was the man who gave a chance of advancement to a number of superheroes of the celluloid.
He was born in 1926 in Kottarakkara in Kollam district of Kerala as the son of Shri Raman Pillai and Smt. Parvathi Amma.
Beyond being an, actor, writer, director, and producer, KP Kottarakkara played a serious part as a freedom fighter and was confined by the British government.

KP Kottarakkara was brought to the film industry by Merry Land Subrhamaniam during 1949; before as he started his life as a clerk at Punalur paper mills.

Celebrites like MGR, MT Ramarao, Sivaji Ganeshan, Dileep Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Gurudath, Kamalhassan, Sathyan, Prem Naseer, Madhu, Mammootty, Rajkumar, Nageshwararao, Vijayakanth, Prabhu, Vaheed Rehman, Rekha, Jayaram, Dileep, Suresh Gopi etc have done excellent roles in his movies.

He is the rarefied to have done movies starting from Sathyan to Dileep. He had written stories for around 87 movies including malayalam, telugu, kannada, tamil and had produced 59 movies in these languages.

Pasamalar written by KP Kottarakkara was the first Indian movie which was remade into eight different languages. His last movie was Zamindar directed by Haridas in which Suresh Gopi played the hero.
He wrote the story and screen play for Neela studio's first movie Athmasakhi. Later turning on to movie production, he started with his first malayalam film Jeevithayathra.

His important movies were Penmakkal, Kanatha veshangal, Vidhyarthi, Love in Kerela, Rahasyam, Rakthapushpam, Sambhavami yuge yuge, Lankadahanam, Pachanottukal, Ajjnjathavasam, Amma, Aval kanda lokam, Yudham, manase ninakku mangalam, Ee shabdam innathe shabdam, Adyathe kanmani, mazhathullikilukkam.

He was the president of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce in 1980 and was also an executive committee member of the Film Federation of Indian, apex body of the Indian film industry.
He passed away on 19th November 2006 after pulmonary illness at the age of 85.

He is survived by his wife Sarada and sons Producer KP Ganesh and Producer Ravi Kottarakkara.
