K Velappan was popularly known as Chamayam Velappan. Velappan went on to be part of about 600 films in Malayalam and Tamil till 2004. Velappan has also directed a movie in Tamil titled Thai Piranthal Vazhi Pirakkum. He was part of the first Malayalam 70MM movie Padayottam and first 3D movie, My Dear Kuttichathan. He was a regular make-up man for Sathyan, Prem Naseer, Sivaji Ganeshan, Madhu, Sheela, Mohanlal and Mammootty to name a few. Velappan was bestowed with many awards.
Velappan leaves behind wife Vijayamma and children V Ashok Kumar (production controller), Kanakajakumari, Jyothishkumari, Kishore Kumar and Jayalakshmi.
