A. L. Srinivasan, popularly known as ‘ALS,’ was a leader of South Indian Cinema with a brilliant track record as a producer, studio-owner, distributor, financier and talent scout.
Veteran Tamil lyricist Kannadasan was his brother.
ALS had held many responsible and high positions in various associations connected with the film industry. He had held the post of the president of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce for 13 years. Among the films produced by ALS, ‘Thirudaathae’, ‘Ambikapathy’, ‘Lakshmi Kalyanam’, ‘Kandan Karunai’ and ‘Cinema Paiththiyam’ are still remembered and enjoyed by people with the same zest. ALS can be credited with introducing many highly talented persons to the film industry through his films which totaled 35 in number, comprising films in the five Indian languages – Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.
He was married to the then popular actress S Varalakshmi.
ALS, who was a pillar of the film industry, was afflicted by diabetes and he met his end on 30-7-1977 following a heart attack.
