Keezhoote Balakrishna Pillai Ganesh Kumar (born 25 May 1966) is a Malayali Indian film and TV actor and politician, now serving as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of the state Kerala, representing the Pathanapuram constituency in Kollam district since 2001. He was Transport Minister from May 2001 to March 2003.[1] He is the son of R. Balakrishna Pillai, former Minister of Kerala.
A commerce graduate from the Government Arts College, Trivandrum, Ganesh Kumar was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 2001 from Pathanapuram by defeating Prakash Babu of the Communist Party of India and re-elected to the Assembly in the 2006 general election. He is the only sitting MLA of the Congress-led United Democratic Front from Kollam district. He was the Transport Minister in the A. K. Antony ministry. In 2003, he stepped down from the ministerial post to make way for his father's inclusion in the Cabinet.
He made his debut in Malayalam cinema through the film Erakal by K. G. George in 1985. Its was adjudged the second best film for the year. He has been performing a variety of roles for nearly two and a half decades. He has acted in over 125 films and 39 television serials. He was adjudged Best Television Actor (2007 Kerala State Award) for his role in the serial Madhavam aired on Surya TV. Effectively balances political work and film career.
