NP Chellappan Nair

N P Chellappan Nair was a popular Malayalam dramatist and short story writer.

He was born to Nedungadi Parameshwaran Pillai and Valeth Kalyani amma in Mannar in Alleppy district of Kerala in 1903. He worked as the Block Development officer and was the special officer in charge of the proposed Alleppy district.
Chellappan Nair wrote his plays in a pleasing and simple style. He wrote, directed and also acted in his plays and skits. His plays evoked spontaneous and boisterous laughter. His plays were many times satirical about contemporary politics and anything anti-people.
He was a scholar in the history of Kerala and has published many papers on the early life in Kerala. He has written more than two hundred short stories and around twenty two plays.
He scripted and acted in the old Malayalam movie Prahlada which was directed by K Subrahmanyam. His other movies are Chandrika, Sasidharan, Chechi, Athmashanthi, Atom bomb.
He passed away in 1972
