‘Oru Kotta Ponnundallo’ in Kuttikkuppayam to music composed by Baburaj marked LR Easwari’s entry into Malayalam film music. She has to her credit several sensual numbers and folk songs, whose emotions she aptly conveyed through her excellent rendition. She is considered one of the foremost female playback singers in India.

The Tamil film, ‘Nallayidathu Sambandham’ was the first movie for which LR Easwari sang. It had music composed by KV Mahadevan. Her 1963 recorded and 1967 released Oru Kotta Ponnundallo in Kuttikuppayam created new waves in the Malayalam music style. She sang for several music directors, in the Malayalam industry including Devarajan, Dakshinamoorthy and K Raghavan and in other languages for composers such as MS Viswanathan and KV Mahadevan.

Several honors came the way of this talented singer. She won the state award 6 times each in Tamil and Telugu and 4 times in Kannada. She has belted out 103 songs in Malayalam. Chalkkudippuzhayum (Rosy), Ethrakandalum (Archana), Ummaakkum Bappaakkum (Kuttikkuppayam) and Kilukile chirikkum (Lankadahanam) were just three out of her repertoire of energetic hits.

She gave some of the biggest chartbusters in Tamil, such as Muthukkulikka Vareegala, Vaarayo Thozhi, Mappillai Rahasiyam and Elanthappayam.

LR Easwari who has chosen to remain single, lives in Chennai.
