By the time 'Ormmakkaayi' was released,Gopi had firmly established himself as a hero who could play a lead role in spite of his bald head and unglamorous looks.Nedumudi Venu was also in the same league and Malayalam cinema had announced it's maturity to accommodate,accept and celebrate stars who transcended the looks department and became famous for their artistic versatility. Ormmakkaayi was a clear indication of the above where Gopi played a dumb sculptor.Here was a new challenge where he was left without dialogues and only his body language to communicate with the audience.He rose to the occasion as if he was playing dumb all through his life.Madhavi one of the most sought after heroines of the times was his lead lady in the movie.
