A Movie that has been in the boxes for 14 years released
Movie that was filmed fourteen years ago but kept in storage was released on last October 12th. "Karpoora Deepam" with Siddique in the lead role, was the dream of Swapna Baby that saw light today. Shanthi Krishna is the heroine. The film was filmed for ten days with Suresh Gopi as hero when it came to a halt for technical reasons. Then an attempt was made to continue with Jayaram as hero. When that too fell through, after six months a new attempt was made to get Manoj K. Jayan to play the lead role. Thereafter, the movie which was stopped resumed with Siddique as hero in the year 2000.
Until then Urvashi was in the lead role, but in 2000 when shooting was resumed, Shanthi Krishna became the heroine. By December 2000 the dubbing of the film was completed and canned ready for release. By then the producers had spent seventy five lakhs, whereas the budget was forty lakhs. The movie received censorship approval last year, but for want of distributors the movie remained in boxes.
Rathish and Jose Pellissery who acted in this film are no more with us. At any rate, it was the dream of Swapna Baby to get the movie to theaters that was realized. In the fourteen years that all this has been going on, Baby has not made any other film. Karpoora Deepam is the tenth picture of seventy one year old Baby, who is from Thrissur. His first film was Kaakka Thampuratty starring Prem Nazeer and Sharada. George Kithu has directed Karpura Deepam. Film script is by Chovvallur Krishnankutty. The songs of the film, born in the partnership of Yousefali and Johnson are sung by Yesudas, Chithra and M G Sreekumar. The movie is based on a short story by Mallika Younis.
The movie is released by Cheruvathoor Movie Makers.
