Puthezhathu Raman Menon was born to Kottaykkattu Parameshwara Menon and Puthezhathu Paappu Amma on October 19 1891.

Puthezhathu Raman Menon was a shining star of Malayalam literature. He has dedicated, more than a 100 works in various genres. Essayist, short story writer, novelist, biographer, humorist - he left behind his signature on almost every imaginable literary genre. With his 'Shakthan Thampuran', Puthezhathu Raman Menon established himself as a historian to reckon with. Hindumathavum Samskaravum and Sahasrakirananaya Tagore are brilliant examples of his research faculties. He wrote a novel named Chathuraadhyayi. His essays titled 'Keralathe Ariyuka' and 'Thrissur - Trichur' were landmarks in the genre of historical writing. He left his mark on children’s literature also with his 'Kuttikale Ningalkku Ee Aale Ariyumo?'

Raman Menon has an undeniable place in the filed of Malayalam cinema also. He wrote the script and dialogues for the film Nirmala, which was released in 1948. Nirmala, the fourth ever film in Malayalam also enjoys the unique distinction of being the first Malayalam movie to be produced by a Malayali and also the first movie in Malayalam to feature playback singing. Being the scriptwriter of this movie confirmed Puthezhathu Raman Menon’s place in the history of Malayalam cinema too.

After a long and illustrious literary career, Puthezhathu Raman Menon breathed his last on September 22, 1973.
