Soon after graduating from Kollam Fathima College, Kochaniyan got a job with the Indian Railways in Bangalore. He was the Chief Organizer of the Keralasamajam there. He resigned from Railways in 1972 and served as Manager at the District Co-operative Bank in Kollam.
Kochaniyan got a chance to act in a television serial "Arabikkadalinte Rani" when he was acting in Kalidasakalakendram’s drama "Sathi". He has acted in around 100 television serials and 25 movies. Kochaniyan has over 20 years of experience in the theatre field.
He was a cancer patient and succumbed to death in a private hospital in Kollam. He is survived by wife G Nalinambika and two daughters Swapna and Pinki.
