Director K G George, who made cult films like Mela and Yavanika that were crucial in Mammootty's acting career, says that the star's behavior during the making of Elvamkode Desam prompted him to quit filmmaking.
"In fact I missed the Mammootty that I had aspired for in my last movie, but I had no other option because film making had undergone such a radical change that veterans like me had become misfits in the business. That enlightenment made me decide that I would never make films anymore," George said. He added that there were no squabbles between him and the actor and that he had learned to internalise his pains.
"I have never squabbled with anyone whom I have worked with. I have never disclosed to anyone that Mammootty treated me badly. I silently kept all such matters under wraps. But I said to myself - He is a bad person," George said.
The national award-winning director said that even though Mammootty is a good artist, he has been unsuccessful in not limiting himself within the precincts of an actor, as Thilakan very ably did. This, George said, is a problem stemming from Mammootty's rise to superstardom.
